I wonder if Google is going to identify them all and put us out of our misery? I’m currently reading Nicholas Nickleby along with a group at Goodreads and will share with them your comment on Kate as the main character in a proto-feminist novel- wouldn’t that be something?

I just blogged about a sad book, and really struggled to decide what makes a sad book. I ended up picking The Outsider (aka The Stranger) by Albert Camus, mostly because the character is so emotionally detached that it leaves you as a reader feeling rather empty and sad at the end of it, like there is nothing at all worth celebrating or feeling positive about. But it is a tricky, and probably at the end of the day personal, question.

Not by being cajoled and harassed by other student’s so much as at the time, by the teachers. A majority of teachers in rural TN thirty years ago weren’t very appreciative of student’s that had the ability to read as well as comprehend what the writing was about. I never apologized for reading and feel that a love for the written word is why I have always wanted to be a writer. I think you wrote a fantastic post about it.
